1. Secure Your Passwords on Every Platform. When you sign up for a password manager, one of the first things you need to do is create a master password for your account.
2. The Password Basics. Most people use a password manager primarily to manage website credentials. In practice, when you log in to a secure site, the password manager offers to save your credentials.
3. Fill Forms Automatically. Since most password managers can autofill stored credentials, it's just a small step for them to automatically fill in personal data on web forms, such as first and last name, email address, phone number, bank cards, passport numbers, and so on.
4. Advanced Password-Management Features. Given that all these products take care of basic password management tasks, how do any of them stand out from the pack?
5. What's Not Here. As mentioned earlier, you also won't find any only-free password managers here. Those products are in a separate roundup. The password managers that offer both excellent paid and free tiers appear in both roundups.
6. The Top Password Management Software. Although a password manager needs to offer advanced features, it should remain easy to use and avoid needless complexity.

1. Dashlane. Dashlane is our first choice. It’s the password manager we use at SecurityTrails, and we love it for its high level of security and straightforward use.
2. LastPass. LastPass was the definitive winner of the Twitter vote for best password manager, and it’s not hard to see why. LastPass has long been hailed for being the best free tier password manager due to the fact that, unlike other competitors, there is no limit to the number of passwords you can use with it or devices you can sync with—it allows for all of them.
3. 1Password. The second contender in our poll, 1Password, is a bit different from the two previous entries on this list as it doesn’t offer any kind of a free plan.
4. Bitwarden. Bitwarden didn’t get the chance to be included in our poll as Twitter limits its polls to only 4 options, but we got a couple of comments supporting it as their top pick for the best password manager around.
5. KeePassXC. Another open-source password manager has made it onto this list (and kicked Keeper off of it). We always want to support open-source software so it’s no wonder that our final choice came down to this one.
