1. Don’t Panic. A recommendation doesn’t mean anything has changed, yet. Skerrit, the owner of Dream Vacations, encourages travelers to find out what the current guidelines are before hitting the panic button.
2. If You Booked Through A Travel Advisor, Reach Out To Them. Travel professionals are there for you and are receiving daily updates on what’s happening around the world.
3. Check The U.S. State Department Website. A valuable resource for country-specific COVID protocols is the U.S. State Department. “Those deciding whether to travel to Europe should review the U.S. State Department website, which has the most up-to-date travel protocols,” advises Skerritt.
4. Check The Destination Country’s COVID Website. Since protocols are ever-changing, you’ll also want to confirm restrictions on your destination country’s website with a site updated by them.
5. Check Your Trip Insurance Policy. If you bought trip insurance for your trip, pull out your policy and read through it. “Usually, the only two reasons you can cancel is if there is a death or illness,” says Skerritt and adds that the fear of getting sick may not be reason enough to cancel your trip according to your policy.
6. Contact Your Lodging. If you’ve already booked lodging/accommodations, reach out to the vendor to find out what their COVID requirements are. For instance, there may be a curfew for the rest of the place you’re visiting, that doesn’t apply to your accommodations.
7. Contact Vendors Including Transfer Services, Tours, And More. Speaking of contacting vendors, don’t forget about any transfer services, tours, or other transportation you’ve booked for your trip.
8. Get A PCR COVID Test Even If It’s Not Required. This falls under “be prepared for everything.” Even if the country is not requiring a PCR test within 72 hours, go ahead and get one just in case.
9. Check To See If You’re Eligible For Travel Credit. Don’t feel comfortable traveling? Check with your travel provider that you booked your trip with and see if they will let you cancel and get a credit.
10. Get Vaccinated. Skerritt refers to vaccinations as a traveler’s “golden ticket.” “Since the EU is remaining open to vaccinated U.S. visitors, the best way to travel is to get a vaccine,” she affirms.

1. Nurses must legally reside in a designated nursing compact state and meet that state’s licensure requirements. In other words, your primary state of residence or home state—where you file your tax return—must be one of the compact nursing states.
2. RNs and LPNs/LVNs holding an active nursing license in good standing with the Board of Nursing (BON) are covered by the Nurse Licensure Compact; advanced practice nurses are covered by a different (APRN) compact.
3. The Nurse Licensure Compact enables nurses to fill travel nursing positions in other nursing compact states without the need to obtain additional licenses.
4. Travel nurses with compact nursing licenses must still obtain new state licenses to qualify for jobs in non-compact states. (Travelers who reside in non-compact states must obtain a new license in every state where they choose to work.)
5. Upon receiving your multi-state nursing license, your work history, specialty and other pertinent information will be stored in a shared database accessible by all the nursing compact states.
6. All states—even those already participating in the existing Nurse Licensure Compact—must enact new legislation to be included in the enhanced NLC.
7. Under the new provisions of the enhanced NLC, all compact nursing states must conduct federal criminal background checks to determine a nurse’s eligibility for a multistate license.
8. The enhanced NLC license allows nurses to provide patients nursing services in any of the compact states, either physically or virtually, e.g., using the latest tools and technologies, such as via telenursing.
9. Official implementation of the eNLC will go into effect Friday, January 19, 2018.
10. Nurses with original compact nursing licenses are grandfathered into the eNLC, and all current multistate licenses will remain valid while states make a determination whether to move forward with the eNLC legislation.*

1. I Make $100/hour (or some other ridiculously exorbitant amount). This is the thing that I most see travel nurses brag about. This will only hurt you. If the staff believes that you are making double what they are making…believe me, they will make sure that you work for it by assigning you the most difficult patients.
2. At ____ hospital, they do it better/different. No one wants to hear about how their hospital lacks or is behind times when it comes to equipment or procedures.
3. Your accent is _________ (funny, disturbing, silly, etc). All people in the south are __________ (hicks, hillbillies, etc). This should go with out saying but… Avoid degrading any local dialects, customs, stereo-types.
4. My life is so great. I’ve been to ___ # of cities and I get to travel all the time. I know that you love your job as a travel nurse and if you’re asked this is different.
5. That supervisor/nurse/cna/Doctor is _______ (any negative comment). That nurse, supervisor, doctor or CNA that you’re bad-mouthing may be someones friend, significant other or family member.
6. I can’t imagine how you live (in this dirty city/in this small town) all the time. Small town living might not be your cup of tea as city living could be the furthest from ‘fun’ in my book.
7. I can’t wait for this job to be finished. Remember who you are talking to. The full-time staff may feel trapped in the job and you bragging about being able to leave soon will only make them resentful.
8. The nurses at __________ were awesome/horrible/etc. When you make a habit of discussing the individual staff members at another hospital in a negative aspect, don’t be surprised if the staff stays away.
9. I get to take as many Vacations as I want and for as long as I want. This is never something that a staff nurse wants to hear about. They are generally lucky to get two weeks vacation a year and if they are telling you where they are going on their next vacation, they certainly won’t want to hear that you get an optional vacation every 13 weeks!
10. I NEVER work the Holidays. If you want the staff to hate you, go ahead and let them know that you haven’t had to work a Christmas in the past x number of years.

1. Airline passengers are getting more unruly. The US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has received close to 3,300 reports of unruly behavior by airline passengers this year so far -- and it's tired of their nonsense.
2. Billionaires are escaping to space. British billionaire Richard Branson plans to beat fellow billionaire and rival Jeff Bezos to space. Branson's company, Virgin Galactic, made a surprise announcement that he will attempt to fly in Virgin's rocket-powered plane on July 11 — nine days before Bezos's planned July 20th launch.
3. Asia-Pacific has the most powerful passports. Dueling passport indices Henley Passport Index and Arton Capital's Passport Index both released their quarterly round-ups of the world's most powerful passports on Tuesday, with contrasting results.
4. Travelers are going to a little US island just to get jabbed. Wham, Guam, thank you, ma'am. Taiwanese travelers are flying into the US territory of Guam to enjoy the island's gorgeous scenery and also to load up on Covid jabs from a vaccine menu that includes Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
5. Airbnb has blocked more than 50,000 partiers in the US alone. We hate to remind you of LMFAO's 2011 mega-hit, but it's our duty to inform you that "Party block is in the house tonight."
6. Canada won't be opening its borders anytime soon. If you can read this sign, you're too close. Canada might have just dropped its quarantine requirement for fully vaccinated Canadians entering the country, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this week rejected the idea that non-essential visitors will soon be allowed in.
7. Amber turns green for fully vaccinated Brits. The UK has once again spun its color wheel of fate and, from July 19, fully vaccinated UK travelers will able to skip the self-isolation requirement when returning from "amber" list countries.
8. Seoul and Sydney have toughed their lockdowns. Health workers conducting Covid tests in Sydney's Bondi Beach. On Monday, Seoul will enter a two-week lockdown that will be its toughest yet, in an attempt to counter surging Covid-19 numbers.
9. Scottish coastlines might have the cleanest air in Europe. The Scottish island of Islay is known for its whisky. The coastlines of Eastern Scotland have the cleanest summer air in Europe, if a new air pollution study by US-based cleantech business Airly is to be believed.
10. LEGOLAND New York is opening a huge hotel. The LEGO Friends room. Does the girl on the left know something her friend doesn't? Sure, you can stay at the Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton, but to really do New York in style, you need a Disco Elevator and a Pirate Room.

1. “I’m busy right now. I’ll get back to you later when I have the time.” At any given time, things in a unit can go from a state of bliss to full blown chaos.
2. “At St. John’s Hospital, they did things so much better.” As a travel nurse, chances are you’ve seen things done differently, and sometimes even better, at other facilities.
3. “This town/city/state is boring/terrible/ugly. I can’t imagine living here.” When you visit a new location, you’re a guest. While a particular area might not be your cup of tea, try and see the positives in the experience.
4. “This job is terrible and boring.” Just like you’re a guest in a town or city, you’re also a guest in the facility where you’re working. Keep your negative opinions to yourself.
5. “I can’t stand working for Dr./ Nurse/etc. ________.” Talking behind other people’s backs is a big no-no for travel nurses. Chances are that the person being badmouthed is someone’s friend, relative, or spouse.
6. “People here are so rude/obnoxious/etc.” As a traveler, you’ll soon learn that people in different parts of the country behave in different ways. While someone from California might find an East Coaster brash, this may have nothing to do with personality, but rather the local culture.
7. “I don’t know why I’m working here, but at least I’m making a lot of money.” Never discuss your salary with permanent staff. Who wants to hear that a travel nurse is making more than they are when they’re working just as hard?
8. “The staff/nurses/doctors at St. John’s Hospital were awful/mean/etc.” Again, never badmouth a facility you’ve worked at in the past. You never know who has worked there or who knows someone there.
9. “I hate working holidays.” Chances are, so does everyone else, and it doesn’t help to remind others what you hate doing. Holidays are when people spend time with their loved ones--away from work.
10. “I’m just doing this for the free travel.” While this may be true, it’s not something you should ever say. Instead, spread the word about the perks of travel nursing and all of the experience it has provided.

2. Crochet, Knitting or Cross stitch. Crocheting, knitting, or cross-stitching is a great way to pass the time and when you’re finished, you have something to show for it!
3. Volunteer. Volunteer work is vital for countless cities across the US. Many places like homeless shelters, soup kitchens, or animal shelters would love the extra help!
4. Read. A classic rainy-day activity is reading. With the technology we have today, there is no need to even leave the house to buy a book or rent one from the library.
5. Study for the CCRN, or other certificates. Studying is an excellent way to spend your downtime, not only are you keeping busy but you’re taking the steps to further your career!
6. Painting and Audio Books. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone by painting and listening to audiobooks, podcasts, or a Ted Talks. Painting helps relieve stress, so this is also a great way to unwind after a long week.
7. Scrapbook. A rainy day is a perfect time to finally get all your previous adventures in order by scrapbooking them. Local hobby stores have all the necessities for scrapbooking, whether it’s your first time or you’re a pro.

1. Leave your fears behind. Do you dream of going to Tokyo but are not able to muster courage enough because of all the stories you have heard of the language troubles and food woes?
2. Travel light. One thing folks both modern and traditional are really good at is accumulating objects. Whether you need them or not, one tends to mindlessly buy and collect them.
3. Not everything can be planned. Stop being such a control freak! I say that humbly to bring attention to the fact that despite having spent big moolah on the luxuries and various conveniences, there will be instances more than one when things will not go as planned.
4. All good things don’t always come with a price tag. Sometimes the most memorable experiences are the simplest ones. Learn to let go of the social and peer pressures in your immediate environment.
5. Keep expectations in check. It is good to research and know your destination before treading the path towards it. However, the real key here is to not allow that knowledge to lead you.
6. Learn to appreciate others. Living in our iceberg modes and glued to the digital extensions of our beings, we often forget to give human companionship and intelligence its due credit.
7. It’s OK to ask for help. This tip comes more for the typical guy who simply refuses to accept that someone could know the solution better than him. Same applies to the liberated woman who thinks it is bowing in front of patriarchy if she were to ask for help.
8. Find your own path. Don’t aspire to go places only because your neighbor has. Have the confidence to be unique and chart your own territory. So next time someone laughs at your picking Gokarna over the ever popular Goa, don’t let your spirit be deterred.
9. Know yourself. Travel is described best as a discovery of the world. I’d say that that it is also a discovery of the self. Gustave Flaubert said, “Travel makes one modest.
10. Move on. One of the follies of human nature is to seek stability in life. “Are you settled?” people often ask. I say, “Why should I or anyone be?” At any given point, we should be able to go on.

1. Make Orientation Information Relevant To Travel Nurses. It’s fair to say that a significant percentage of hospitals put their travel nurses through the same orientation that permanent staff go through.
2. Provide Some Equipment Time for Travel Nurses. A lot of the equipment used in hospitals is commonplace throughout the industry. However, there are many manufacturers and models which means that there are small differences in how things function.
3. Make Access A Priority For Your Travel Nurses. Travel nurses often hit the floor without access to the vital tools they need to adequately perform their jobs.
4. Take Note Of Your Travel Nurses’ Email Access. As with all organizations, email is commonly used by hospitals to communicate with staff. Unfortunately, hospitals rarely provide their travelers with a company email address.
5. Broadcast The Travel Nurse’s Contract Terms. Travel nursing contracts encompass a set of work related agreements. Some of the agreements, like shifts, start dates, and end dates are an inherent part of every contract.
6. Provide Travel Nurses With A Facility Map In Advance. It’s important to remember that travel nurses are not local. They often arrive at their assignment destinations one to three days prior to the start date.
7. Provide Travelers With A Facility “Cheat Sheet” Remember, travelers are expected to be highly productive team members in just a very short period of time.
8. Consider Providing Some Housing Possibilities. Most hospitals are unaware that housing is often a deal breaker for travel nursing assignments. In some locations, agencies and travelers are unable to locate affordable housing options.
9. Things to Consider When Floating Travel Nurses. Most travel nurses accept and understand that floating is part of the job. However, travelers often make the following suggestions
10. Welcome Travel Nurses As Part Of The Team. Different hospitals relate to travel nurses in different ways. Some hospitals welcome travelers as part of the team.
